Terms
Last updated: 13 September 2026
These terms cover tuition arranged with Angela Jerome, trading as Elevate Science. These T&Cs are deemed to have been accepted upon commencement of the in-person or online lesson.
Lessons and consultations
- Online lesson extensions will not be accommodated if a lesson is delayed due to the student's late arrival.
- If Angela Jerome is late to a session, you are entitled to the full lesson time.
When leaving the tutee at the business premises, you agree to:
- Keep your phone turned on and at a clearly audible level, in case Angela needs to contact you in an emergency.
- Arrive back at the premises in good time to pick up your child. Occasional lateness can be accommodated, but persistent lateness will be charged in 15-minute increments of the full hourly cost.
- Take siblings of the tutee with you — they cannot be accommodated on the premises.
Online sessions
All online sessions take place via Zoom. Please check that your hardware and software meet basic minimum requirements before booking lessons, or inform Angela if there are technical problems.
Materials and equipment
- For both online and in-person sessions, students are expected to have writing materials with them (pen and paper, or another means of recording information).
- Course materials will be provided if agreed.
- Worksheets and test papers will be provided for in-person, online and homework purposes.
Prices and payment
- For individual tuition sessions, a price is agreed between Angela and the client prior to the first paid session.
- Clients must pay for tuition sessions on the day, at the beginning of each individual lesson, or — if paying as a block — at the beginning of each block. Please check the correct payment is enclosed and that notes and coins are in date.
- All sessions that fall within school term-times are part of the service you are agreeing to, and are expected to be paid for, except under the exceptional circumstances defined in "Missed lessons and cancellations" below.
- Payment is accepted in GBP.
- All fees are subject to revision from time to time; reasonable notice will be given to clients ahead of any such revision.
Missed lessons and cancellations (normal circumstances)
- If a student misses a lesson for any reason other than sudden illness, more than 24 hours' notice should be given. Every effort will be made to reschedule at a mutually convenient time, but this cannot be guaranteed.
- If a lesson is missed without notice, the client forfeits the lesson fee and no refund is given.
- In the case of illness, if more than 24 hours' notice cannot be given, every effort will be made to reschedule — but a reschedule cannot be guaranteed.
- Clients will be informed in good time of any expected holiday dates or periods of unavailability (generally in line with Havering school holiday dates).
- Clients wishing to cancel a paid block of lessons will not receive a refund.
- Wherever possible, rescheduling the lesson is the preferred course of action, subject to tutor availability. If this isn't possible, the lesson may be counted toward the following session or month.
- There is a 2-cancellation limit per term for sickness absence.* Sessions will become payable from the third missed sickness-absence session onwards.
- Cancellations for anything other than illness must be paid for. Unpaid missed sessions will result in a suspension of services until payment is made; sessions will be terminated if payment for a missed session is not received within 5 working days of that session.
- If your child needs to rearrange a lesson due to school, extra-curricular, family or any other commitment, payment for that session is still required 48 hours before it's due to take place. Please notify Angela as soon as possible and request a reschedule, but understand that this may not always be possible (in which case the session is still payable), and may result in a week with more than the usual number of sessions.
- Additional holiday sessions are in addition to term-time sessions, and cannot be booked in lieu of missed term-time sessions.
- School events or similar arrangements, such as holidays, are not considered "unavoidable."
*In the event of more than 2 cancellations per term, fees will not be returned or carried over unless the lesson is rescheduled.
**Term dates, for these purposes, are the dates stipulated by Havering Authority; independent-school tutees follow these dates for the purpose of tuition with Angela. These are loosely defined as: Term 1 — 1st September to Christmas; Term 2 — 1st January to the Easter break; Term 3 — end of the Easter holidays to the summer break. Lessons during school holidays are negotiable; "no-notice" cancellation fees apply once booked.
School holidays
- Tutoring does not take place during half terms unless arranged.
- If you arrange to continue lessons during the holidays and then change your mind, cancelled lessons will be charged unless at least 48 hours' notice is given. Holiday sessions booked under the appointment system (once running, where only a limited number of appointments are available) are non-refundable.
- If you're taking a term-time family holiday, please give as much notice as possible — no less than 2 weeks.
Angela's commitment: Cancellations on Angela's side will only happen when absolutely necessary. Should a session need to be cancelled by Angela, it will not be charged, and any fee already paid will be carried over to the following session. Thank you for your support in this matter — if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification.
Termination of services
Should either the client or the tutor wish to end services, it is preferable that as much notice as possible be given. For the purposes of this agreement, a minimum of 2 weeks' notice must be given, unless termination begins immediately by mutual agreement between tutor and client.
Professional guidance
- Students and parents should specify their level and/or desired examination board (if required) prior to the first lesson.
- All advice and information given is based on Angela's professional research, knowledge and experience. Angela remains informed of the latest updates regarding education best practice and uses the most recent information available to guide clients.
- Every effort is made to work with the student and their parents to achieve their desired goal. However, a particular grade cannot be guaranteed — Angela will do her best to manage expectations and keep students and parents informed of her professional opinion.
- Angela holds an Enhanced DBS Certificate on the update service, which can be viewed by clients on request.
Many thanks,
Angela Jerome
